Riders CT BB succeeded again in Hungary

5 riders of our team decided to take advantage of the week off in the Slovak CX calendar and participated in a Hungarian SuperCross series race in a near-by Balassagyarmat.

The race was quite different to its previous editions, with almost all the straight sections were omitted, and new technical parts were added on the contrary. The race course was well prepared, organizers took care of any accessive snow on the track. Racers were each lap challenged by new conditions as the track changed throughout the race, the curves becoming more icy and slippery. Definitelly a race for technicaly skilled riders.

44 riders took start in the joint category Elite Men, Masters A and U23. A trio Lukáš Bátora, Štefan Gajdošík (BikePro B.Bystrica) and the current National Champion CX of Hungary, S.Buruczki (Merida Kobánya TC) was leading from the very start. Lukáš backed up due technical problems and thanks to a sound performance of the leading duo, he was not able to return to front. The race was decided in one of the last technical sections on the track, with Buruczki taking advantage of Gajdošík’s technical mistake and kept a sligh difference to finish line. L.Bátora performed really well after a few day’s long illness and still not completely cured arm from a fall in his previous race. He finished 3rd, Fraňo 8th and Debnár 11th in Elite Men category.

Lukáš said after the race: „Despite the 2 week gap in racing, I felt good in the race today. We rode in a group of 3 with me and Štefan changing in the front. I had a technical problem with my chain only 3 laps to go, but had to stop to do the necessary repairing – I was not able to come back to the leading duo. It was a good training for our National Champs next week.“

Incredible number of female riders – 16! – raced in the joint start with Masters B and Junior riders. 38 riders altogether. Barbara Benkó, the best Hungarian XC and CX rider, 27th from the summer Olympic Games in London and with podium finishings at almost all U23 World Cups, proved once again her qualities and easily won the Elite Women’s category. So there actually only was a race for the 2nd place. Zuzana Vojtášová finished 3rd, Lívia Hanesová in 6th place.

Lívia said about the race: „This was my first race in snowy conditions, so once again a new experience. I had a slow start, as usually, but was moving up little by little in the first 2 laps. I lost some time until I changed my bike due to puncture and was not able to regain my position.“

„With regards to the snowy, icy and very slippery course, the race really was only about the riding technique skills. I did fight for the 2nd place in the first two laps, but due to a lack of technique experience in riding in these conditions, I can only be satisfied with my 3rd place" were Zuzana’s words in the finish.
