Fraňo wins this years’ first regional cycling cup
Regional cycling cup started this weak despite the current arctic weather conditions. Individual time trial from Mičiná to Veľká Lúka started already the 23st edition of the series.
Even though some of our team riders who just returned from Morocco, Marek Čanecký and Debnár to be more precise, absented from this race, there were more then 20 riders at the start who decided to face the cold of max. 7 degrees Celsius. Martin Fraňo who had just returned from a demanding stage race in Morocco only couple hours prior to the start won the time trial easily. Runner-up Ladislav Longauer lost nearly 30 seconds. Dominik Špilák finished third.
“We just returned from a difficult 10-day long stage race in Morocco which finished this Sunday in the streets of Casablanca. We then travelled from early Monday morning and got home only at the break of day on Tuesday. I also have some wounds from crashes in the last days of the race, so in the light of all this I really had to idea what to expect of myself. It was a nice surprise to achieve time 12:38 in these conditions and in this arctic weather. Climate conditions were not good to reach a new record today, but I do hope for it in the near future. I also hope I will ride well in this year’s first Slovak Road Cup in Trnava,” said Martin Fraňo, winner of the TT. He is the top favourite to win in this fast time trial contest, where he happened to be defeated face-to-face only once by Filip Kristl back in 2010.
