Čanecký close to UCI points in Sweden

CK BB riders aiming for the first time to northern Europe, to take part in 105th Scandinavian Race in Swedish Uppsala

Our five riders Viglaský, Palčák, Fraňo, Bátora and Čanecký took part in the 194km long stage consisting of 12km long laps. The circuit was very technical, literally each 300m the road twisted and narrowed. A short but steep climb was some 2km from the finish of the circuit. Competition in this race consisted of nordic continental and club teams, the Latvian Rietuma Banka, Belgian Doltcini-Flanders, American Firefighters and Spanish Mobel Murcia. Two of these teams were going from Sweden directly to the start the UCI 2.1 Tour the Norway.
Marek Čanecký lost his bottle for UCI points only by few centimeters, when he lost his sprint for the 8th place, the last points awarded place.
„It was a real slaughter from the very beginning. Fight for survival in the peloton in each and every turn and crossroads as the peloton was flying at the speed of almost 60km/h. The speed slowed down a bit when a 7-person group managed to get away, but many cyclists -including my team mates - had already payed their price for the extreme speed and were dropped from the peloton. We started chasing the front group in the last laps and nearly covered the gap; I aspired even for better placing in the finish, I felt really good, but in the end I didn't touch the UCI points. I am satisfied with my form and the fast race though,“ were Marek Čanecký's words in the finish.

A 2km long criterion lap to be passed 30 times awaited all the teams on Sunday. The circuit was very demanding and hard both in terms of the numerous curves and cobble passages but especially due to the long and steep climb to the Castle courtyard. A true cycling fiesta for the spectators. Peloton was spread in the narrow passages from the very first curve, and the tempo was set extremelly high. Johan Lindgren from Swedish national team escaped from the peloton and rode well ahead, his team mates easing his goal slightly in front of the peloton. A 10 person group, including Johan's two team mates Stenberg and Penton followed him shortly. The leading Lindgren and the remained riders lapped almost all cyclists who were at the start. Only 20 riders were classified with full number of laps. Marek Čanecký rode well again today, short hilly laps suit him. He was setting the tempo in the chasing 10-rider group from the very beginning, but with only few laps to go he dropped from this group and finished 12th.
