HISTORY
The team was set-up in 2000 in the city of Banská Bystrica, in central Slovakia. Originally named after its sponsor – Cycling Team Červený Rak (Red Lobster Restaurant Cycling Team), the team was later renamed to the present Cycling Team Banská Bystrica (CT BB later on). But history of cycling in Banska Bystrica has much longer backround. Going back to 1970´s, it changed its name several times from Lokomotiva, Sokol-Merida, Heavy-Tolls Joko, CK Červený Rak to totay´s Cycling team Banska Bystrica.
From the very beginning of its existence, the team sheltered riders of all age categories and various cycling disciplines. Majority of our riders participate at races accross Europe, with the Elite Team taking part in World Cups all around the World.
Cycling Team Banská Bystrica helped to ‘bring up‘ several successful riders, the latest to name Marek ČANECKÝ, now member of Turkish Continental Team Salcano participating at HC races such as Tour of Turkey. Our team also helped to overcome difficult times of Slovak cycling in 2009-10 caused by the World Economical Crisis, when one of the two elite cycling teams in Slovakia, ŽP ŠPORT continental team, was closed down due to lack of capital. CT BB helped the best ŽP ŠPORT riders in the following years by providing them available material support and a demanding race programme.
We aspire to become a big professional team and hope to be a strong competitor of the professional road team, the state-supported continental team Dukla Trenčín.
We are no doubt the best Cyclocross team in Slovakia with the National team members and participate also in MTB and XC international races and World cups.
